John 1:5
And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
A mission trip to Tulia, Kenya in July 2007
I see them still, those dark brown eyes that shine so brightly with each smile
So many smiles, so many giggles the big ones dance the small ones wiggle
They seem so happy no one would know their life’s not easy, they’re all alone
Some have no parents no one at home to miss them so, each time they’re gone
And I wonder who will care for the children of Africa
Who will see they’re treated fair and warm them from the cold night air
Some have no mother to tuck them in at night and kiss their cheek and hold them tight
To pat their back and treat them well and buy new clothes they find on sale
And I wonder who will love the children of Africa
With no father to hold them close and make them laugh and tickle their toes
To teach them rhymes and games to play and how to sing and what to say
To cheer them when they kick the ball and kiss their knee if ere they fall
And I wonder who will cry for the children of Africa
Orphans there in every school, will face a life which seems so cruel
Malaria, typhoid, AIDS and more will block them from the high school door
No money there to pay the fees, will yield a life which has no ease
And I wonder who will help the children of Africa
To draw up water which does not kill to bring them medicine and foot the bill
Or pay a fee to open the door to a brighter future or even more
To write a letter and get reply and share their heart with just one child |
